VIPS provides a variety of services for people who have qualifying vision impairments. Services are typically funded per referral by the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR).
Each person's individual strengths and needs are assessed, and training is geared toward each individual's goals.
The following ILS training services are provided by Roxann Keys at the VIPS office:

The reading and writing of Grade 1 & Grade 2 Braille is taught at the VIPS center. The instructor is Roxann Keys. She has 40+ years of experience using and teaching Braille. Braille is a means of communication for the blind and visually impaired utilizing a series of one (1) to six (6) raised dots-called a cell. In Grade 1 Braille, the easiest form, the combination of one (1) to six (6) dots in each cell represents a single letter. Grade 2 Braille uses contractions (combination of letters) to increase reading speed.

VIPS hosts a support group for people dealing with vision loss and the impact it has on their lives. The meetings are free of charge and open to individuals with vision loss/blindness, their spouses or significant others, family members, friends and care-givers. The Support Group is a safe place to discuss issues you may be experiencing regarding vision loss. Most recently, we have been discussing the five (5) stages of Grief & Loss. Our discussions are always thoughtful, informative and encouraging.

Due to outstanding attendance we have outgrown our capacity at the VIPS facility. We will be moving our meeting to a new location. Janet's Flowers & Wedding Chapel has graciously donated the use of their Wedding Chapel for our Support Group.
This new site is just three (3) doors north of VIPS, on the same side of the street, on the corner just across G Street from A&W Root Beer. It is about 305 ft. (less than 1 minute walking distance) from the VIPS Office. For walking directions to the Wedding Chapel call VIPS at (209) 522-8477.
Enter the Wedding Chapel at the door closest to the corner of 14th & G Streets (on the 14th St. side). It has a ramp leading to the door. You may arrive up to ½ hour early (10 a.m.). If you arrive earlier PLEASE GO TO THE VIPS OFFICE UNTIL 10 A.M. We need to leave the facility by 12:15 p.m.
